You are challenged with maintaining the ballast along the tracks as well as the terrain around them. Inclement weather and construction can lead to soil and ballast wash out along with runoff or windblown particles depositing into drains, ditches or lakes, all which can seriously endanger plant and aquatic life. Traditional “solutions” for these issues include silt fencing, hay bales, vegetative buffers, mulches or erosion control blankets. Midwest believes that erosion control and soil stabilization is much more cost effective than sediment control. By stopping erosion you can avoid costly clean-up and environmental effects from occurring.
Midwest can help operators deal with these issues by offering Soil-Sement® to manage aspects of erosion, sediment, silt and stormwater runoff problems.
Soil-Sement® is specifically designed for use in stabilizing soil and controlling erosion. It’s developed to be environmentally safe and provide superior dust control performance. Over the past 30 years, Soil-Sement® has been extensively tested in the field, in our state-of-the-art laboratory and by independent organizations such as the US EPA, California Air Resource Board and Canada ETV.

Soil-Sement®
A polymer emulsion blend, Soil-Sement® bonds surface particles to resist surface separation by wind or rain. It is considered non-hazardous per OSHA and EPA definitions. It is a white liquid that dries clear and requires dilution with water to aid in penetration. Soil-Sement® can be applied to all types of soils and surfaces. At railroad coal terminals, it is effective on coal stockpiles to prevent moisture penetration and to prevent dust and erosion.
