A Better Switch and Rail Lubricant
Reduces Maintenance Time,
Increases Performance,
Lasts Longer & Doesn’t “Crust”
Glidex® is a track switch agent used for the lubrication and anti-icing of railroad switch slide plates, throw rods and other moving parts. Additionally, overhead crane rails, door pockets, slide chairs, couplers and moveable bridges can be treated. Glidex® was developed specifically for moderate climates which experience heavy frost and never-ending wet weather. Glidex® is not water soluble therefore will not be affected by rain and moisture.
Does your current lubricant collect dirt and dust? Graphite and heavy greases are well known for packing hard, getting “crusty” and difficult to remove from switch area. Not so with Glidex®. It stays moist for weeks or months, even in extreme temperatures or wet conditions, without drying out or decomposing.
Glidex® is a better lubricant than other methods such as oil and liquid graphite because it stays on switches much longer. Depending on how often switches are used, a Glidex® treated switch can operate from one week to months before another treatment. Other lubricants need more frequent applications requiring crews to reapply lubricants more often. In addition, other methods need to be diluted. In the case of oil, it turns into a greasy substance at certain temperatures.

trains or freight train systems.
While Glidex® works well as a lubricant it also provides a non-freezable barrier to snow and ice. The anti-icing property makes Glidex® extremely versatile in year-round weather conditions. Glidex® will hold fast to vertical surfaces & is extremely resilient to low-temperatures. It can be poured at temperatures to -25°C (-40°F).
What Others Are Saying...
“Glidex stays on the switch plate well & lasts longer, for one month.”
...Clayton Beam of Bessemer & Lake Erie RR
“Glidex stays on the plate longer than past lubricants, so we were able to cut back on man hours. When we used oil, it was not EPA approved, it had to be diluted and it turned into a type of grease.”
...Butch McKee of U.S. Steel
“Glidex is better than the graphite lubricants we used in the past. Fewer returns (maintenance) are required so it saves us time.”
...Bruce Critchlow of Union R.R.
