Dust Control

Road stabilization and dust suppression with Dust Fyghter LN100
Use Renewable Resources to Keep Unpaved Roads Stable and Dust-Free
Unpaved roads are natural breeding grounds for unstable surfaces and unwanted dust. At quarries, mines and other areas where paving is not the curative method of choice, Midwest’s Dust Fyghter® LN100 delivers the needed stability and dust inhibition cost-effectively without harming the environment.
Formulated from lignin, a naturally occurring polymer found in wood, Dust Fyghter LN100 creates hard-packed dust-free roads by binding road surface particles together so that dust cannot escape into the air. Once applied, Dust Fyghter LN100 is rejuvenated in place when the roadway is graded, watered, or when a subsequent application is made.
Vital statistics
- Creates a skid-resistant surface
- Improves visibility on dirt roads
- Stabilizes surfaces against potholes and wash boarding
- A low-cost, environmentally sound alternative to salt-based calcium chloride and magnesium chloride products
- Applies easily via Midwest’s E-Sprayer™ System or any water truck after being mixed with water
- Is derived from abundant and renewable resources
- Biodegradable and non-corrosive
- Freeze-thaw stable
The firmer, more stable, dust-free road surface resulting from treatment with Dust Fyghter LN100 reduces the need for frequent road repair. The surface toughness resists the tendency of dirt and gravel roads to form wash board ribbing and, therefore, requires less frequent or no ongoing grading.
Dust Fyghter-treated unpaved roads are safer than untreated roads, on which visibility-impeding dust clouds are inevitability. Applied properly Dust Fyghter LN100 is non-toxic and will cause no harm to surrounding foliage and surface water.
About lignins and lignosulfonates
Commercial lignins are complex naturally-occurring polymers produced as co-products of sulfite pulping in the paper industry. In wood, they perform as a glue that holds the cellulose fibers of pulp together. When separated from wood and processed for use on unpaved roads, they bind dust particles to the aggregate on roads the same way they bind the cellulose fibers in wood pulp.
If your specific manufacturing or mining processes are not compatible with the chemical properties of Dust Fyghter LN100, Midwest offers other Dust Fyghter lignin and chloride alternatives.
