Cost Effective, Safe Dust Suppressant Provided to 5000-Acre Canadian Tailings Site A tailings site within Ontario, Canada needed an effective dust suppressant for their haul roads and 500+ acres of an active tailings pond, including slopes. In addition, new areas of the tailings site are opening up, which are closer to populated areas and also requires more stringent dust control. Several different dust suppressants were used previously and were not as cost effective. Soil-Sement® was tested and proved to be cost effective, produce the dust control desired and be safe and odor free. Soil-Sement® eliminates fugitive dust and airborne particles by binding dust to the surface. This cost effective program was easy to implement. The Soil-Sement® mix application does not require mulch, mixes easily with water, is not sticky and allows for longer intervals between applications than the previously used products. A Terrator was used to apply Soil-Sement® on areas that were not able to be reached by a standard hydroseeding truck. Soil-Sement® chemically bonds and seals the surface to prevent wind from lifting fines and creating dust. It is environmentally safe and provides effective dust control for periods ranging from 90 days to 12 months before retreatment may be necessary. |
